Natfly
2003 Review by Angela Smith October 2003 edition of Pacific Flyer
- "Video
Review Natfly 2003" Produced by Teckair Services Childers,
Queensland Running time approximately 75 minutes
This video
contains useful information for those looking at purchasing, building, or just
interested to see some of the aircraft available in Australia at the moment.
There are so many interesting new aircraft being designed and built both here in
Australia and overseas.
The aircraft industry is soaring (pardon the
pun), the old Cessnas and similar aircraft from the past are being shown up by
the new sophisticated and sleek aircraft now coming onto the Australian market,
and all at a fraction of the price of a new Cessna.
These modern aircraft
can really move, but if you are looking for a more docile fun machine, you are
not forgotten, and of course the price of one of these aircraft is much more
affordable.
Whatever your idea of an aircraft is, and your budget, there
is something out there for you. The producers of this video roved around
the aircraft on display at Natfly 2003, interviewing approximately 20 aircraft
owners. Some being agents, whilst others were private owners, and in some cases
the aircraft's builder. Each was more than happy to give a run down on operating
costs, fuel economy, cruise and stall speeds etc. and approximate purchase price
- whether it be factory built, kit or plans built. The builders also included
the hours spent in construction time.
The aircraft owners interviewed,
ranged from the plans-only Teenie 11, to the V8 powered Supermarine Spitfire
replica. Both these aircraft owners were also the builders of their
machines.
There were hundreds of aircraft at Natfly this year, far too
many to cover in detail on one video, but this is a good start. You may spot
some other aircraft taxiing around the field that may be of interest to you,
which you can later follow up and obtain more information on.
I think if
you haven't managed to attend this event in the past, this video will definitely
give you the incentive to try and make it next year.
